Things To Do In Paris

Welcome to the City of Light: Paris!

You’ve chosen to explore Paris, one of the most enchanting cities in the world. With its history, culture, art, and cuisine, there’s no shortage of things to experience. So, let’s embark on this adventure together and dive into the magical world of Paris!

First Thing’s First: The Iconic Eiffel Tower

Of course, no trip to Paris is complete without visiting the iconic Eiffel Tower. I recommend buying tickets in advance to avoid long lines. Don’t forget to wear comfy shoes because you can choose to climb the stairs up to the second floor or take an elevator. Either way, the view from the top is absolutely breathtaking and gives you a chance to see Paris in all its glory.

Say Bonjour to Art: The Louvre Museum

The Louvre is the world’s largest art museum, and let me tell you, it’s spectacular. Give yourself a good half-day at least. Here, you can marvel at thousands of artworks including the famous Mona Lisa. A little tip: the Louvre is free on the first Saturday of each month in the evening.

Explore the Montmartre District

Montmartre is one of the most charming neighborhoods in Paris. It’s full of artistic history and the place where many famous artists, like Picasso, used to hang out. Don’t miss the stunning Sacré-Cœur Basilica at the top of the hill. Treat yourself to a crepe or a croissant in one of the small cafes, and enjoy the artistic ambiance.

Seine River Cruise

For a relaxing break, take a cruise down the Seine River. It’s a great way to see many of the city’s landmarks from a unique perspective. Plus, there’s something really romantic about drifting along the water as the city lights shimmer around you.

Experience the Divine: Notre-Dame Cathedral

Despite the fire in 2019, Notre-Dame still stands as a symbol of French Gothic architecture. While the restoration continues, you can still admire its beauty from the outside and visit the nearby park for a lovely view.

Shop ’til You Drop: Champs-Élysées

If you’re a shopaholic like me, Champs-Élysées is your heaven on Earth. This famous avenue is lined with shops, cafes, and theaters. It’s also the perfect place for a leisurely stroll leading up to the majestic Arc de Triomphe.

Discover the Left Bank: Saint-Germain-des-Prés

For a more intellectual and artsy vibe, head to Saint-Germain-des-Prés. This area is known for its bookstores, including the famous Shakespeare and Company, and jazz clubs. It’s also home to some of the city’s most decadent chocolate shops – a must for the sweet tooths out there!

Take a Breather: Luxembourg Gardens

After all the hustle and bustle, find some tranquility at the Luxembourg Gardens. With its fountains, statues and beautifully manicured lawns, it’s the perfect place for a picnic or simply to relax with a good book.

Experience Nightlife: Moulin Rouge

Want to experience a real Parisian night out? Moulin Rouge is the place to be! This historic cabaret is famous for its spirited can dance and dazzling performances. It’s a bit on the pricier side, but it’s worth every penny for an unforgettable night.

Feast on French Cuisine

No trip to Paris is complete without indulging in some classic French cuisine. From buttery croissants and cheeses to exquisite wines and gourmet dishes, your taste buds are in for a treat. If you’re feeling adventurous, try escargot (snails)! Some of my favorite spots include Le Comptoir du Relais for their incredible duck confit and Le Relais de l’Entrecôte for the best steak frites.

Take a Day Trip: Palace of Versailles

If you have an extra day, I highly recommend taking a trip to the Palace of Versailles, just outside of Paris. The palace and its gardens are unbelievably grand. The Hall of Mirrors is a must-see, and the gardens are perfect for a leisurely walk. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, as there’s a lot of ground to cover.

Final Tips Before You Go

Before wrapping up, here are a few extra tips for your trip:

  • Learn some basic French phrases. It’s appreciated, even if it’s just a simple “Bonjour” (Hello) or “Merci” (Thank you).
  • Pickpocketing can be common, so be mindful of your belongings, especially in crowded areas.
  • Use public transportation. The Metro is efficient and will save you time and money.
  • Carry a water bottle, as there are numerous public fountains throughout the city where you can refill for free.
